This auction is for a vintage
1966 Epiphone “Eldorado” (Model# FT90) Jumbo FlatTop Acoustic Guitar.
These mid 60’s Gibson made
squared shoulder flattops produce super deep bass with full bodied sound.
The
Eldorado was a step up from the Texan (or J50), with slightly fewer “frills”
than the fancier Frontier or Hummingbird.
This is one of 169 Eldorados
produced in 1966, a rather low production volume.
A vintage (Gibson made) Epiphone
that is celebrating it’s 46th birthday, in wonderful original condition.
I have
owned several 1960’s Gibson/Epiphone instruments, and this one is one of the
best sounding of the lot. Big full voice.
This is a very nice playing vintage instrument….in very
very good original vintage condition.
The finish is original, and while still
retaining it’s original gloss, does show lacquer checking and minor surface
blemishes on the body (photos).
The blond spruce top is just lovely, and the
mahogany back and sides are
contrasting dark with a nice grain.
After extensive inspections, no repairs are visible or
evident. No cracks or separations.
Original tortoise guard is tight. All
bracing & blocks are still 100% structurally firm.
No funny business
whatsoever, just a real clean vintage Epiphone acoustic.
The serial # 404293
and specifications date this instrument to the year of 1966.
Epiphone blue label and headstock serial # is a match.
The bridge is flat and secure…with “zero” bowing or
dipping of the flat top. There is some lacquer/finish chipping around the
soundhole.
The binding is near perfect, and amber’ed nicely with age. The lacquer
finish has very modest checking.
The action & neck angle is very good and
the guitar plays really well and sounds fantastic….as these vintage Gibson made
Epiphones should.
It shows moderate fret wear, but with fret life left in
the original frets.
The lovely figured rosewood fingerboard shows slight
wear, with pearl parallelogram inlays.
The headstock is very clean, as are the
original (Patent No. D-169400) metal-buttoned Kluson Deluxe (double line)
tuners.
I replaced the original worn out bridge pins with a
quality set of Tusq pins , originals included in case pocket.
The strap “end
pin” is original, with a later made (non-original) strap pin in the neck heel.
This is a musician’s instrument versus a collector’s
instrument, showing just the right amount of honest play wear.
The vintage pebble grain (purple plush-lined) archtop case
is in very good condition, and all the latches work.
I believe this excellent quality case is
a late 1960’s or early 1970’s case. It fits the Eldorado “like a glove”.
The pictures truly reflect the nice condition of the
guitar.
I have plenty of photos…should you require more to view…just provide an
email address.
The winning bidder will pay the insured UPS shipping
cost.
I WILL NOT
EXPORT this item (ships only to a USA address…lower 48 states only), nor end
the bidding early to sell outside of the auction process.
A reasonable and undisclosed reserve is in place to
protect the investment. Payment with credit cards via (PayPal only) is accepted.
Payment is expected
within 3 days of auctions end. The auction results are final, and there are no
returns, nor warranties associated with this auction.
Ask your questions prior
to auction’s end or bidding.
I always strive to put forth an honest and factual
listing description complete with photographs to enable the bidders to make the
best-informed decision that they can. I occasionally screw up, but my feedback
from buyers over the last 11+ years has been perfect, the buyers being
satisfied with their purchase as well with the service, packing and shipping.
This is a very nice 1966 Epiphone “Eldorado”.
Big sound & a real joy to play.
Best of Luck.
